Sled Island takes the 1989 American fantasy-drama film 'Field of Dreams' very seriously.
Back in 2007, Zak Pashak, then owner of the Calgary music venue Broken City, as well as former volunteer at CJSR, wanted to highlight all the dynamic, interesting art that young Calgarians were creating.
So he created something that music fans in Alberta had dreamed of for years: a summer music festival. He built it, and they came. He built it, and it put the Albertan music and art scene on the map.
Today, Sled Island is one of the largest — and perhaps most important — music festivals in the country. With more than 250 artists and bands on the docket for this year's festival, Sled Island dares festival goers to experience and engage with challenging, compelling music, film and comedy.
As you can probably tell by now, we here at CJSR can't wait for this year's festival. We're so excited, in fact, that ended up driving down to Calgary a little preemptively. We just couldn't wait to experience all the incredible music and art that our friends at Sled Island have lined up for this year's festival, scheduled to go down between June 19-22nd 2013.
