In the early morning of June 15th, 2012 a tragic triple homicide occurred inside HUB Mall at the University of Alberta. Travis Baumgartner, a 21 year old employee of the armoured security company G4S allegedly shot and killed three of his co-workers while they were transporting money to an ATM located inside HUB Mall. The incident occurred within feet of where many students, who live in HUB Mall student residence, were sleeping or studying for exams the next day.
The tragic incident was compounded when the University of Alberta's Emergency Alert System was not activated, leaving many people in the universities community confused, and looking for answers.
In this episode of the CJSR Edition, the news department investigates why the alert system was not tripped, and what if anything the university should have done differently.
